Motor vehicle safety is important for everyone, especially your young children. Having the proper restraining devices for your child will keep him or her safe and comfortable when traveling in the car.
Recent Ohio revised child restraint law requires certain specifications when buckling your child up depending upon his or her age:
- The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a child remains rear-facing until 2 years of age.
- Children less than four years old or 40 pounds must use a child safety seat.
- NEW: Children less than eight years old, unless they are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall, must use a booster seat.
- Children ages 8-15 must use a child safety seat or safety belt.
Along with unique seats and belts, it is important to make sure the devices are properly in place and fastened correctly. Read instruction manuals carefully so that your child is effectively protected. The Health Department provides car seat checks to ensure your seat is properly in place.
