Mercury Exchange Program

Mercury is a naturally-occurring metal that comes in liquid or gas form. It can be found in many household items such as fever thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, old thermostats, toys and barometers. When mercury-containing items break, mercury is released into the air; the results may cause short- and long-term health effects.

Mercury Fever Thermometer Exchange Program at CCCHD

The Clark County Waste Management District sponsors a mercury thermometer exchange program at the Health District, providing funding for recycling of bulk mercury and mercury-containing devices. Since its inception, the mercury exchange program in Clark County has collected and recycled over 480 pounds of mercury.

Spill Response & Cleanup

The Health District or the Ohio EPA responds to all reported mercury spills in Clark County, assisting in assessment and cleanup. To report a spill, please call 390-5600.

Mercury Collection at Community Cleanup Events

The Health District assists with mercury collection at community cleanup events.
