Dapoxetine (brand name Priligy) is a fast-acting SSRI prescription medicine. It treats premature ejaculation (PE) in men aged 18–64. The drug uses the active ingredient dapoxetine hydrochloride. It’s taken by mouth—on demand, not daily—and only as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

What Are the Dapoxetine Uses?

Dapoxetine is a powerful drug used in the treatment of premature ejaculation in men. It helps men have better control and makes sex last longer. What’s more, the drug reduces stress linked with PE and boosts confidence. And finally, Priligy can make the experience more satisfying for both partners.

How to Use Dapoxetine

Earlier, we noted that dapoxetine is not for daily use. Let’s stress that again—this medicine should only be taken when needed under your doctor’s instructions.

Most men take one tablet 1-3 hours before sex. Always swallow it whole with water. Do not crush or chew it. You can take dapoxetine either before or after food—both ways are fine.

And here’s the key point—never take more than one tablet in 24 hours. Always follow your doctor’s instructions closely.

Overdose and Missed Dose

If you overdose on Priligy, call your doctor right away. Signs may include feeling very sick, dizzy, or faint. In serious cases, get emergency help fast.

Since dapoxetine is only taken on demand, you’re not expected to have a “regular” dose. That means if you miss a dose, just wait until the next time you need it. You never want to take extra tablets to make up for a missed dose.

Warnings/When Not to Use Dapoxetine

Do not take Priligy if you:

  • Suffer from liver disease.
  • Are allergic to dapoxetine or any of its ingredients.
  • Have serious heart problems, like irregular heartbeat or heart failure.
  • Have a history of fainting.
  • Are taking medicines called MAOIs, thioridazine, or other SSRIs.

Also, always tell your doctor about other health issues and medicines you use. This helps avoid dangerous drug interactions.

What Are the Side Effects?

All medicines can have their fair share of side effects. This drug is no different. Luckily, most of Priligy’s side effects are mild and temporary. However, a few may require immediate medical help.

Important: The above may not be the complete list of side effects. Please consult your healthcare provider and don’t ignore new or worrying symptoms.

What Other Drugs Does Dapoxetine Interact With?

Dapoxetine does not work alone in your body. If you mix it with other drugs, the effects can change. Sometimes the mixing makes side effects worse. Other times, it makes the pill unsafe. That’s why you should always tell your doctor about every medicine you take.

Here are some drug groups you should be careful with:

  • Other antidepressants. Mixing them can cause too much serotonin. This may lead to a rare but dangerous condition called serotonin syndrome.
  • Migraine drugs or triptans. Taking both may cause sudden changes in blood pressure.
  • Painkillers with opioids. These drugs may increase your risk of feeling dizzy, weak, or fainting.
  • Potent antifungal or antibiotic drugs. Some of these drugs can slow how your body clears dapoxetine, worsening the side effects.
  • Heart medication—especially ones that interfere with rhythm. Mixing them may cause an uneven heartbeat.
  • Other drugs for erection dysfunction. Using them together may excessively lower your blood pressure.

It’s not only prescription drugs you should think about. Even herbal pills or over-the-counter meds can clash with dapoxetine. So, please keep it simple. Share your full list of medicines with your doctor. That helps you stay safe and enjoy the best results.

How Do I Store Dapoxetine?

Storing dapoxetine isn’t hard. Just keep it at normal room temperature. A cool, dry spot works best. Avoid the bathroom. The steam and damp air can damage the pills.

Leave the tablets in their original pack until you need one. This protects them from light and moisture. And remember, this medication is only for you. Avoid sharing it with any person, even if they have the same issue.

Also, keep the pack out of reach of kids and pets—safety first! If you have expired tablets, don’t use them. Ask your pharmacist the best way to throw them away.
