Children with Medical Handicaps

Children With Medical Handicaps (Formerly known as BCMH)

The BCMH is a program sponsored by the Ohio Department of Health and supported by the CCCHD. The purpose of BCMH is to link families with special health care needs to a network of quality providers. It also assists families in obtaining payment for services their children’s’ needs.

A public health nurse will discuss the benefits of BCMH with the child’s family and address any questions, concerns or comments. Eligibility requirements of the BCMH program include children under the age of 21, permanent residents of Ohio, under the care of a BCMH-approved doctor, and who have or may have a chronic medical condition. Financial eligibility is required for the treatment program only.

Conditions eligible for the BCMH include but are not limited to:

  • Diabetes
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Hearing Loss
  • Spina Bifida
  • Chronic Lung Disease
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Hemophilia
  • Metabolic Disorders
  • Sickle Cell Disease
  • Cancer
  • AIDS
  • Severe Vision Disorders
  • Cleft Lip/Palate
  • Scoliosis
  • Juvenile Arthritis
  • Congenital Heart Disease
